About Barra
Barra Kahn, MA, ACCEP
Barra Kahn brings a lifetime of embodied practice to her work in somatics, integrating movement, psychology, and expressive healing into a cohesive and transformative approach. She is the Director of Next Generation Core, a Washington, D.C.–based institute for somatic training, and serves as senior faculty at the Institute of Core Energetics, where she also contributed seven years on the Board of Directors.
With over four decades of experience teaching yoga and more than ten years as a professional dancer, Barra’s work is deeply rooted in the intelligence of the body. Her advanced certification in Core Energetics, combined with a Master’s degree in Psychology, allows her to bridge clinical insight with the expressive, energetic language of human experience.
Barra’s background in communication and the performing arts further enriches her teaching. She was a professor at George Mason University, specializing in nonverbal communication for individuals and groups, and spent nine years as both faculty and Artistic Director at The National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts. These experiences inform her nuanced ability to help individuals access, express, and transform deeply held emotional patterns.
A skilled facilitator of personal and professional growth, Barra is known for her capacity to support the healing of core wounds and inner conflicts by weaving together Core Energetics with creative and somatic modalities. She is a member of the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy and holds a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher certification with Yoga Alliance.
